Say Goodbye to Unwanted Threads: Meta Now Lets You Delete Your Profile Without Deleting Your Instagram!

Meta’s Threads is slowly shaping up to be a serious competitor to Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) and is starting to add several features that were missing at launch, such as the ability to edit posts, and only recently has also added the ability to independently delete a Threads profile without deleting his Instagram account. Yes, until now it was impossible for you to delete your Threads profile unless you deleted your Instagram account.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri told Threads about this release, along with another feature that allows you to block post suggestions from appearing on Meta’s other platforms, such as Instagram or Facebook.

“We’re introducing a way for you to delete your Threads profile separately from your Instagram account,” Mosseri announced on Threads. And now, if you want to delete your Threads profile, all you have to do is go to Settings, then go to “Account”, go to “Remove or Delete Profile” and finally select delete.

In the screenshot shared by Mosser, we can see that deleting your profile is permanent, and once done, all your profile information, including replies, messages, and media files, will be hidden and permanently deleted after 30 days. And on the same page, Meta also notes that this deletion only applies to the Threads profile and that your Instagram account will not be deleted or deactivated.

Meta has also made it possible to disable the display of post suggestions on Meta’s other platforms, such as Instagram and Facebook. This is due to user dissatisfaction with Meta’s Threads integration, specifically the For You on Threads carousel for Instagram and Facebook feeds. To do this, open the Threads app and go to Privacy. You will then see “Suggest Posts” with separate options for Instagram and Facebook. You can turn off the carousel either on Facebook or Instagram by changing the settings as you wish.
